My name is Sam Roon. I've been working in digital marketing professionally since 2006, and have been active in the digital space for more than two decades.
My tenure in digital includes Sony Music, Roadrunner Records, Sony DADC, and several digital agencies. It has been an exciting and bumpy ride. I have a million stories to tell my grand kids one day... one day when they're old enough to be told those kinds of stories.
Today, however, is for business.
I want to share one of the critical foundations of why I felt it was important to create Alpha Alias; strategy.
More importantly, I want to talk about the various types of strategy and how they apply in the digital space. I'll discuss their value and why they're important.

There's no such thing as digital marketing.
Digital marketing doesn't exist. There is only "marketing."
I still talk about myself as a digital strategist who focuses on digital marketing, but digital marketing is really just the implementation of the critical aspects of marketing law in the digital space.
To put it another way, digital marketing is marketing with fancy tools.
This distinction, or, lack thereof, is critical to understanding digital strategy.
Digital strategists, like myself, are not playing by different marketing rules.
Marketing in the digital space is the application of a business' outreach initiatives to our nuanced ecosystem.
Digital strategy, therefore, is the battle plan for how we utilise the tools, tricks, methods and mayhem in our arsenal to achieve the broader marketing objectives in our space.
